Age shouldn’t define where you travel.

For years we told ourselves we’d travel properly one day.

Not a weekend in Europe. Not a package holiday. Properly — the trips we’d always talked about. Vietnam. South America. Asia. The places that felt just out of reach while life was busy and the kids needed us and there was always a reason to wait.

Then one day we looked at our pensions and our savings and asked ourselves one question.

What are we actually waiting for?

The kids are grown. We’re fit. We’re healthy. The time we kept waiting for — it’s now.

So we stopped waiting and started going.

Vietnam. Japan. Peru. Colombia. Guatemala. Costa Rica. China. Cambodia. The Florida Keys. And we haven’t stopped since.

We’ve climbed mountains, crossed borders on foot, toasted marshmallows in active lava, fed sun bears in a Vietnamese national park, and ridden the back of a Grab bike through the chaos of Hanoi. In our 50s. All of it.

Why The Grown Up Travellers exists

 

Nobody was talking honestly to people like us.

The travel content we found was either for 25 year olds with a gap year to fill, or for retirees who wanted a cruise. We were somewhere in between — experienced enough to know what we wanted, fit enough to do more than people gave us credit for, and finally free enough to actually do it.

So we started sharing what we actually find. Not the Instagram version. The real one. What it costs, what it takes, what surprises you, what goes wrong and why it’s still worth it.
